WHO Reports 493 Attacks on Medical Facilities in Gaza and West Bank Since October 7
The World Health Organization (WHO) has documented 493 attacks on medical facilities and services in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank since October 7, resulting in nearly 600 casualties, according to Richard Peeperkorn, the WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian territory. Between October 7 and December 20, 246 attacks in the Gaza Strip caused 582 deaths and 748 injuries.
The attacks also damaged 61 medical facilities, including 26 out of 36 hospitals, and 76 ambulances. In the West Bank, 251 attacks from October 7 to December 15 resulted in 7 deaths and 45 injuries. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that only 8 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip are currently operational.
The Israel Defense Forces claimed to have uncovered around 1,500 Hamas tunnels and underground passageways in the Gaza Strip since October 7, with many reportedly located under schools, hospitals, mosques, and UN and civilian facilities.
